Bill Beigel to speak at Whittier Area Genealogical Society Chapter Meeting, Jan. 17
Bill Beigel will present his “Return of the WWII Dead Program,” lecture to some 60 members of the Whittier Area Genealogical Society (WAGS) chapter meeting on Saturday, January 17, 2015. The presentation explores the controversy of whether to bring home America’s valiant dead, killed and buried all across the globe, or to leave them buried in battlefields, on foreign or enemy soil, or in special military cemeteries created in cooperation between the U.S. Government and our allies. The decisions made by the American people and the U.S. Congress under the Truman Administration forever changed the way the world’s nations care for their military war dead.
The topic is the subject of Beigel’s upcoming book.
Following this historical presentation, Beigel will give an educational presentation for the genealogists about how to research military documents and individual histories surrounding the deaths of war veterans killed in World War II.

Hi Bill, Thanks for putting this together. My grand uncle, 2nd Lt. Robert L. Woolfolk attended UCLA and I believe he graduated in 1936. He was on the waterpolo team. He was a bombardier in the 571st Bomb Squadron, 390th Bomb Group and his aircraft "Decatur Deb" was shot down on May 28, 1944. He and six others perished while three were able bail out and became POWs. This is written up the in the book "Bloody Skies: U.S. Eighth Air Force Battle Damage in World War II." Interesting....very hard to know the 'who hit who'.....Fort had enough flying time to be a instructor, I know nothing about the other pilot. If Pastor Jeff had information on her being talked into a situation, I would love to know if reliable. Regardless, so many losses in so many ways....
