The following article ran in the Fresno Bee on October 21, 1944. I researched the death of PFC Fannon in connection with the Fresno Veterans Memorial project.
“Fresno Marine Dies in Action in Pacific War”

Mr. And Mrs. Raymond W. Fannon of 2304 Glenn Avenue have been notified by the war department their son, Private First Class Huston R. Fannon of the United States Marine Corps, was killed in action in the Southwest Pacific.
Fannon volunteered for service a few days before Pearl Harbor, but had to wait for his seventeenth birthday, December 12, 1941, before being sworn in. He had been overseas 23 months and took part in the campaigns of Guadalcanal and New Britain Island.
He attended the Central Union High School, where he was a member of the Future Farmers of America.
He is survived by his parents, three sisters, Mrs. Nancy Duckhorn of Hollywood, Mrs. Ruth Johansen of Hanford and Mrs. Vera Emory of Fresno; a brother, James Fannon of Fresno, and two grand-mothers, Mrs. Alice Stovall of Fresno and Mrs. Josie. Stovall of Porterville.
